Presidential election

The President of Iran is elected to a four-year term by the public. The first Presidential election in Iran was held in 1980, following the Iranian Revolution of 1979 which resulted in the overthrow of the monarchy, although the President's power is second to the Supreme Leader who has absolute power in the government. The President of Ireland is elected by the Irish people for a seven-year term.
