Comparison of Agrawal and Vance Models for Response Calculations on Aboveground Cable Excited by Electromagnetic Pulse

2011
In order to find the similarities and differences between Agrawal model and Vance model, which can be used for the calculation of the cable effects excited by incident electromagnetic pulse(EMP),we discussed the differences of transmission line equations, differential variables, line terminations and exciting sources between these two models by theoretical analysis and simulation, results show that since there are two equivalent lumped sources produced by vertical electrical field in Agrawal model which are not in Vance model, the calculation results of the former are larger than those of the latter;if the two equivalent lumped sources are not taken into account, the calculation results of two models would be the same.At last, the factors that affect the calculated results are analyzed, such as the height, length of cable, the incident angles of EMP,and so on,results show that the induced currents increase separately with the increase of height or cable length;in the range of ,the induced currents decrease respectively with the increase of polarization angle or orientation angle, and increase with the increase of pitching angle.
