The Ni atom in the linear polymeric title complex, {[Ni(C 11 H 17 OS 2 ) 2 (C 10 H 8 N 2 )]·2CHC1 3 } n or {Ni[S 2 C(-)-OC 10 H 17 )] 2 (NC 5 H 4 C 5 H 4 N)·2CHC1 3 } n , is octahedrally coordinated within a trans- N 2 S 4 donor set. There are two crystallographically independent polymers and two independent CHC1 3 molecules in the structure. For each polymer unit, the Ni atom and the axis of the 4,4'-bipyridine ligand are located on a twofold axis.
