Relaxation and recrystallization in an amorphous Fe40Ni40B20 alloy

1993
Abstract Comparative 57 Fe Mossbauer studies on amorphous Fe 40 Ni 40 B 20 ribbon specimens have been made. Using conventional and pulse super-ambient annealing procedures we investigated their relative effects on magnetic relaxation and structural stability against crystallization. The results are interpreted in terms of various structural relaxations and ordering mechanisms. The onset of crystallization is clearly detected at the ribbon surfaces. Segregation of boron, which is a precursor to crystallization in the present system, is smaller for pulse than for conventional annealing procedures.
