Effects of king grass on soil and water conservation

2005
The cultivation experiment of King grass on slope land was conducted to study its efficiency for controlling water and soil erosion at yao-shuo-qiao village of Dushan county in 2004. The results showed that King grass can effectively increes vegetation coverage, dicrease soil erosion from the land surface, reduce unit volume weight of the soil, raise the capacity of conserving soil andwater on slope land. At the planting density condition of 2 500 plants per 667m~(2),only 70 days after sowing, the vegetation rate can reach 95%. The output of fresh grass reaches 134 331 kg per hm~(2) within a year. Comparing with the uncovered plot of the slope land, the surface runoff decreased by 52.73%, the soil erosion amount reduced by 70.26% in the plat of King grass growing.
