DISTRIBUTION OF NATURAL AND TECHNOGENIC RADIOACTIVITY IN SOIL SAMPLES FROM FOOTHILL AND MOUNTAIN AREAS IN CENTRAL TAJIKISTAN

2008
Within the framework of the multinational "Navruz" project (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, USA, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan), funded by ISTC (Т-1000 and Т-1163), the Physical-Technical Institute of Academy of Sciences of Republic of Tajikistan, has been involved in the research on identifying radioactive contamination of transboundary rivers and their basic inflows. Samples of water, water suspensions, sediments, water vegetation and soils have been collected and analyzed. In the present paper results on the distribution of uranium and thorium series radioactive isotopes, K-40 as well as Cs- 137 in the Hissar and Zarafshan mountain ranges slopes are given. The results from 2005 showed that the Cs-137 concentration in soils varied from several tens up to hundreds Becquerel per kilogram.
