The role of pseudomorphic structure in sintering process

2021
Abstract Three kinds of calcined alumina powders with different properties were used as starting materials and sintered under pressure without sintering additives. The sintering mechanism of pseudomorph and its effect on the physical properties and pore parameters of the sintered materials were studied. The sample containing the pseudomorphic structure has a characteristic sintering temperature and shows a significant difference in the physical properties and pore parameters before and after sintering. In addition, a preferential densification mechanism was proposed based on the results of scanning electron microscopy and pore parameter analyses of the particles with pseudomorphic structures, which revealed abnormally increased pore sizes. As the sintering temperature exceeded the characteristic temperature, the physical properties of the samples with the pseudomorphic structure were rapidly improved.
