Plants undergo the processes of photosynthesis and respiration throughout the entire plant. Leaves produce  oxygen, which is utilized by  mitochondrial cells  for respiration. Respiration occurs in all parts of the plant , including the roots - which ha ve a limited supply of oxygen.
