The increase of administrative or penal claims in the last ten years has changed the perspective of the doctor-patient relationship, and therefore of the process of health care. According to this, doctors and health care organizations have to change their attitude from reactive to preventive. Risk Management is a technique mainly used in the United States and some European countries that has proved to be efficient. Due to the Latin American setting in which Mexico is immersed, its implementation according to successful experiences and taking into account the required cultural and ideological changes is worthwhile.
