Rough surface damping contact model and its space mechanism application

2022
Abstract For the dry conformal friction pairs, the contact damping effect between rough surfaces should be considered. In this study, a new rough surface damping contact (RSDC) model is firstly proposed and then applied to the spatial tribo-dynamics analysis of the variable stator vane (VSV) mechanism, which consists of dry conformal friction joints. The results show that the contact damping is very significant and cannot be ignored, otherwise the calculation process will not converge, which is quite different from the case when lubricants exist. In the tribo-dynamics simulation of the VSV, the damping effect play a role in ensuring stability, and the clearance size affects the distribution of damping forces and rigid forces.
