New Requirements to Specialist Training in the Field of Electrical Power Systems Ship Design

In recent years, unified electric power systems (UEPS) and electric propulsion plants (EPP) of a new generation are being introduced on ships for various purposes. These include DC UEPS with power distribution and valve generating units, hybrid EPP with power from static sources of electricity, etc. Due to new principles of building UEPS with EPP and modern ship electrical equipment and automation tools new requirements to the educational and methodological process when training specialists to design ship systems are necessary. These requirements and proposals for improving the training of developers of shipboard electrical systems and automation equipment are discussed in the report.
