Numerical Simulation of Air-Water Mixing in Hydraulic Engineering with Large-Scale Interface Model

2021
Multiphase flow is a common phenomenon in hydraulic engineering. At present, VOF model is usually used to simulate multiphase flow, but this model is only suitable for large-scale interfacial stratified multiphase flow. VOF model is powerless for multiphase flow in which bubbles, droplets and stratified flow exist simultaneously in the fluid domain. In this paper, the Eulerian extended model, Large Scale Interface, is used to simulate the multiphase flow in which bubbles and stratified flows coexist. The model is used to simulate the aeration phenomenon in the actual three-dimensional complex water conveyance project, and compared with the model test results. It was found that the numerical simulation results of the inlet flow rate, the pressure along the shaft and the maximum submergence depth of the air mass basically coincide with the model test, which shows that the model can reasonably simulate the multi-phase flow coexisting in the actual hydraulic engineering.
