Evolutionary Medicine II. Use of the Comparative Method and The Animal Model

2016
We can use animal models as proxies for human biology in scientific and medical research because the models share an evolutionary history with humans. Common ancestry means that traits found in animal models may be homologous with and directly comparable to similar traits in humans. In some cases traits that are unique to the animal model can also illuminate human biology.
