Optimization of sectorized antenna beam patterns for CDMA2000 systems

2002
To optimize antenna beam patterns of 3 and 6-sectors configuration in a cdma200 system is studied. Increasing the number of sectors in a CDMA system has been seen as the useful mean of increasing the capacity of cell sites. However, in a real CDMA networks, 6-sectors deployments have typically failed to obtain the expected gains due to the complex RF environments. Recently, 6-sectors system is demanded. In the third generation cdma system- cdma2000, system capacity is limited by forward link. There, however, is no data on 3 and 6-sectors sectorized antenna beam width to maximize forward link system performance as well as reverse link. Therefore, optimum beam width of sectorized antenna should be derived with considering forward link performance as well as reverse link. Sectorization gain (SG) represents reverse link performance in a sectorized system. We derive SG and soft/softer handover probability in 3 and 6-sectors system with considering non-ideal antenna radiation patterns. From the results of soft/softer handover probability, we calculate the capacity of forward link. Optimum beam width is derived in 3 and 6-sectors system.
