Analysis of OTA testing methods for 5G Millimeter Wave user equipments

2020
5G communication aims to exploit traditionally unchartered millimeter wave (mm-Wave) frequency range & hence significantly larger available bandwidths towards realizing the technical scenarios of extremely high data rates with ultra-reliable low latency. For 5G mm-Wave devices, the supported capabilities of dynamic beamforming and the absence of RF test ports are creating a shift of performance evaluation from conducted testing towards system-level radiated over-the-air (OTA) testing. This paper discusses the feasibility and limitations of candidate OTA testing methods for 5G mm-Wave user equipments (UE) RF performance evaluations.
