Kinetic investigation of reactive dyeing

Abstract A modified mathematical model has been derived for the description of the reactive dyeing mechanism of cellulose. For the experiments film and fabric based on regenerated cellulose and a dye of monochlorotriazine type (C.I. Reactive Red 43) have been used. The calculated diffusion coefficient could be applied as an acceptable approximation. The dependence of dyeing efficiency on different parameters (dye and electrolyte concentration, pH, temperature, pretreatment, etc.) has been investigated separately. For the improvement of dye utilization hot mercerizing pretreatment proved to be the most effective.
