DC Motors and Generators

2020
One of the earliest areas of electrical engineering is the translation of electrical energy into motion (motors) and the transfer of motion into electrical energy (generators). The first usable motors and generators got their start in the mid to late 1800s and have served as the backbone of the modern industry ever since. In this chapter, we will cover the basics of direct current (DC) motors and generators. The analysis will assume steady-state operation leaving the transient response of the motor to a more advanced book.
