LOW COST SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF LOW VOLUME ROADS

For low volume roads like small colony roads, the accepted serviceability levels are quite low. Many times the funds available are also not sufficient. In view of funds and accepted serviceability level, it was thought that locally available pond ash, a waste material from the nearby thermal power stations may be used along with locally available soil and lime. Soil, pond ash and lime mixes in different proportions were tested in the laboratory and significant improvement was observed in the properties in terms of strength and durability. Keeping in view the test results the low cost specifications were proposed for the construction of roads at the project site.
