IMPROVING THE CREDIBILITY OF HIGHWAY ADVISORY RADIO IN THE I-95 CORRIDOR

1996
Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) has been in place for over fifteen years; however, over that fifteen years, it has not lived up to its full potential as a motorist information tool. The reasons for this shortcoming are many and varied and most have been overcome by agencies that use HAR on a regular basis. This paper describes a study titled "Coordinated VMS/HAR Strategies" conducted by the I-95 Northeast Consultants for the I-95 Corridor Coalition, a group of transportation agencies from Virginia to Maine which have joined together to promote the use of advanced technologies in the northeast corridor. There are more than twenty projects that have been developed in the I-95 corridor Coalition business plan. This project is a part of these interrelated projects.
