Evaluation of the Available Resource of Shallow Groundwater in Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou Area

Over exploitation of the deep groundwater resources in the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou area has caused some serious geologic hazards.Hence, it is important to evaluate the shallow groundwater resources in the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou area.This paper gives a brief view of shallow groundwater system, including water bearing structure,distribution pattern,supply sources,runoff and drainage.A uniform model of groundwater flow in the shallow aquifer has been re-established concerning the whole Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou area.Exploitable groundwater resources in this area are estimated with the calibrated model by restricted water level.This is referential value for making water resources development plan and water supply in this region.
