A graphics intensive object-oriented application for outside plant engineers

1993
The authors describe LEIM/TMM (Loop Electronics Inventory Module/Technology Management Module), a large, real-world, graphical telephony application. This application is fully object-oriented and is based on a state-of-the-art object-oriented database and user interface toolkit. The object-oriented nature of the system made it possible to achieve high levels of code reuse, both within the application and by making extensive use of the InterViews and Unidraw class libraries. The object-oriented paradigm made integration of separate pieces of the application easy. The database takes advantage of ObjectStore's C++ extensions and support for persistence and transactions. The object-oriented design of LEIM/TMM has made it possible to build an extensible, data-driven system that is centered around the user's tasks and needs. Overall, the experience with the design and development of LEIM/TMM validates many of the claimed advantages of object-oriented methodology. >
