An investigation on the work status of midwife nurses who had attended an advanced practice nurse training program in Hong Kong

Objective To investigate the work status of the midwife nurses who had finished an advanced practice nurse program in Hong Kong.Methods A constructed questionnaire was designed and used to inquiry 30 midwife nurses( which accounts for 83.3% midwife nurses who had been trained in Hong Kong).Results Recently,most of them still work at bedsides.their work includes outpatient services,training midwives in the hospital,taking part in the nursing research,making policies and guidelines,estimating the performance of other midwife nurses,case nursing,taking care of women with higher risks,nursing management.But they also encounter some difficulties in teaching,research,academic communication,and continuing education.Conclusion The training program can advance the development of midwifery.Many groundbreaking jobs have been initiated by these midvives; at the same time,supports in the policies,time,funds,teaching skills,research skills should be given to them.
