“Deaths of Despair”: Being in the Time of Precarity

Nobel laureate economist Angus Deaton introduced the phrase “deaths of despair” to explain the precarious socioeconomic conditions of the working class of the twenty-first century, where virtues in work are not valued and rewarded well. He explained the situation of the working-class individuals in a paper published titled “Mortality and Morbidity in the twenty-first century”.
