NUCLEIC ACIDS | Electrochemical Methods

2013
First papers on electrochemistry of nucleic acids were published about 55 years ago. Since the beginning of the 1990’s electrochemical analysis is a booming field producing in the last five years > 700 papers per year. This field is oriented predominantly to development of sensors for DNA hybridization and for DNA damage. Electrochemical determinations of any nucleotide sequence, including detection of point mutations, do not represent a problem. PCR amplification is mostly necessary but exceptionally, in organisms naturally amplified DNAs or RNAs were determined without PCR. On the other hand, there are still some challenging tasks.
