HELMINTOS INTESTINAIS EM CAVALOS DE RAÇA DA REGIÃO SERRANA CATARINENSE

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of intestinal helminths in horses criollo breeds (77), quarter-mile (31) and English Thoroughbred (25), subjected to quarterly anthelmintic treatment and veterinary care in the mountainous region properties State of Santa Catarina. Fecal samples were examined on the basis of egg counts per gram of feces (EPG) and through the test tape (Graham method). Eggs Strongylida Order were diagnosed in 79 (59.39%) of the horses, with no statistical difference in relation to body mass, race and sex of animals. Oxyurisequi infection was diagnosed in 15 mares (11.28%) only by the method of Graham and showed signifi cant correlation (p ≤ 0.05) in animals of the age group 10-14 years. Positivity for eggs of O. equi relative races was 12.99% in criollo horse and 16.13% in the quarter mile and comparing the weight of animals 42.86% and 7.56% in horses up to 300kg and 301-500kg. Monitoring are needed through regular parasitological examinations and evaluation of the anthelmintic treatment strategy
