Optimized operation mode of coordination between the flywheel energy storage and generators for pulsed loads in micro-grid

In the application of microgrid, the pulsed load as a special load with characteristics of short time and high amplitude has many hazards to the grid but also an important part of some micro-grid. For dealing with the pulsed load, the traditional mode of operation is the indirect power supply through the flywheel energy storage as an energy medium. The pulsed load is completely isolated from the grid without electrical connection in this operation mode. So that the grid generator can not assist in energy supply. Frequent switching caused by the traditional mode can also cause the impact to the power grid stability. Correspondingly, this paper presents a new power supply operation mode, the cooperation between the flywheel energy storage and the power grid's generators, which can reduce the demand for the flywheel energy storage capacity and avoid frequent switching of grid generators. Simulation results showed that the optimized operation can run successfully.
