DIE SALZMINERALE VON HALL IN TIROL UND IHRE CHARAKTERISIERUNG DURCH RUDOLF GÖRGEY VON GÖRGÖ UND TOPORCZ THE SALT MINERALS OF HALL IN TYROL/AUSTRIA AND THEIR CHARACTERIZATION BY RUDOLF GÖRGEY VON GÖRGÖ UND TOPORCZ

2007
An e xtensive prospection and mining on salt minerals as raw materials for the chemical industry started in the last decades of the 19 th century by the Austro-Hungarian government. Within the scope of these activities also grants to academic teachers of the universities were appointed for different investigations of salt deposits. One of these persons was Rudolf Gorgey von Gorgo und Toporcz, who analysed and characterized salt minerals from Central Europe and especially from Hall in Tyrol (six articles in international journals). He described the following minerals for the first time from this mining district: langbeinite, vanthoffite and loweite. Geological and mineralogical comparisons of the salt deposit of Hall in Tyrol with the deposits of Galicia (today Poland and the Ukraine) were further topics of articles written by this author.
