2P-113 : Synergistic Photo Cancer Therapy using NIR-triggered Anisotropic Gold Nanobipyramids/Anatase TiO 2 photocatalyst

2020
Anatase titania (aTiO2) coated gold nanoclusters are hard to applied for cancer therapy due to their aggregation issue and morphological disruption of gold during amorphous TiO2 phase changes. Herein, we share a novel methodology to coat aTiO2 onto gold nanobipyramids (Au NBP) at low temperature ranges. The resulting well-defined Au NBP/aTiO2 structures retained their morphology and sharp metal tips responsible for strong electric fields. Preliminary catalytic activity results demonstrated the generation of reactive oxygen species under laser irradiation, sustaining an injection of LSPR-induced hot electrons onto the TiO2 conduction band, for which the well-preserved sharp gold tip and clear monodispersity of our materials played a critical role. Au NBP/aTiO2 uncovered superior results for cancer therapy ascribed to their high uptake rate by human glioblastoma, biocompatibility assessed under dark conditions, and, most importantly, photothermal and photodynamic dual therapeutic effect.
