Characteristics of IPMSM in constant torque and field-weakening mode

The effect of permanent magnet segmentation in Internal Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (IPMSM) on the speed range in the constant torque region and flux-weakening region has been investigated. The motor performance of IPMSM with integral and with segmented permanent magnets has been compared. Maximum torque per ampere control strategy has also been applied for both constructions and the effect on the copper loss of the motor and its torque-speed characteristic has been analyzed.
