SWWS 2007 PC Co-chairs’ Message

2007
The Web has now been in existence for more than a decade and it is influencing in profound ways all aspects of society and commerce. Equally importantly for researchers, the Web has caused a major shift in our thinking about the nature and scope of information processing. However, by its very technological nature and the supporting theoretical foundations, the Web has remained relatively rudimentary, being currently largely suitable for coarse-grain information dissemination. Thanks to Tim Berner-Lee’s vision of the Semantic Web, Web technologies are rapidly moving toward a new theoretical foundation founded on semantics and geared toward application processing of Web data and knowledge deployment. Not surprisingly, there has been a tremendous upsurge of research activity addressing problems associated with semantics for the Web. The International IFIP Workshop On the Semantic Web & Web Semantics (SWWS 2007) is in its third year, and is intended to provide a forum for presenting original, unpublished research results, and innovative ideas related to the Semantic Web.
