A Comparative Study of General Education Subjects in Chinese and American Colleges

By a comparative study of general education subjects between Chinese and American colleges,we conclude that general education in China emphasizes quality-oriented education,classroom education and public compulsory courses.But general education in America attaches importance to competence education,outside education and classified compulsory and general education of liberal arts centers on the studying of classics.Chinese colleges should apply its own advantage,draw the experience of success of American colleges and adopt new strategy with characteristics of the era.The purpose of education in Chinese colleges should foster knowledge,competence and personality.It’s curriculum schedule should show off characters of nation and world,and tradition and modern.Methods of education should be flexible,various and modern.On the basis of these advantages,Chinese colleges will implement general education scientifically and effectively to foster comprehensive talents of one specialization but with many skills.
