ALFA-LOG — Computerized Registering, Control, and Alarm System for Aquaculture

1987
Abstract The value of smolt and fish in a production plant is often very high, either it isa hatchery or a sea plant. The utmost importance of controlled environment for the fish such as water flow, oxygen content, temperature, calls for a system that can monitor and control these parameters in the environment and in case of failure send an alarm to the staff in charge for the plant. The Alfa-Log microcomputer has these features and it has successfully been used inseveral hatcheries in Sweden. The parameters that have been monitored are: temperature, water flows, oxygen content in the water, pH-value, load on heat pumps, pressure in oxygen pipes, operating time for pumps, on/off status on motors, total power consumption. Registered data are stored in the Alfa-Log computer and printed out daily on paper with minimum, average, and maximum values during the last registered day. As an alternative the data can be stored in a central computer for later evaluation. If any of set alarm point is passed, the Alfa-Log unit will send an alarm either locally on an alarm board, or to a central, or to a beeper carried by the staff in charge.
