REVIEW OF U.K. POLICY ON RESPONSE TO OIL AT SEA

1995
ABSTRACT The review carried out by NETCEN on the most appropriate response methods for oil spilled in U. K. waters concludes that aerial application of dispersants remains the most effective primary response. Modifications to operational procedures, in particular increased monitoring of the effectiveness of the dispersant response, is suggested. Research is ongoing on dispersant efficiency and toxicity, and changes in operational procedures should be dependent on these research programs.
