On the New Development of Japan-Myanmar Relations Since 1988

Since the Burmese military government took office in 1988,Japan has adjusted its Myanmar policy appropriately,the special relationship between Myanmar and Japan has been further consolidated and strengthened.The "special relationship" between them is a product of the two countries safeguarding their own interests.Although Japan is establishing the leading position in Southeast Asia,laying the foundation for the achievement of political power to maintain the special relationship with Myanmar,its future direction will be influenced by its ODA policy change,Myanmar's opening-up policy and trade policy,western countries led by the US.
