Multi-Beam VISARs for Simultaneous Velocity vs. Time Measurements

1999
After reviewing some background material, the ideas for a new multi-beam VISAR design involving fiber optics and imaging techniques are presented. Substantial changes were required in an existing VISAR design to implement the new concepts. The design changes not only achieve the multi-beam VISAR, but also further improve the exceptional stability of the original interferometer’s alignment. Multi-beam VISARs capable of simultaneously measuring velocities at up to seven points have been made. The results of a four-beam VISAR measurement are presented, and future prospects are discussed.
