The solar abundance of iron : a final word!
1991
New accurate radiative lifetimes have been measured by a laser-induced-fluorescence technique for 12 selected levels of Fe + of astrophysical interest. These new results combined with recent theoretical transition probabilities provide another contribution in order to try to solve the controversy raised during the last months concerning the content of iron in the sun. The abundance value, A Fe =7.54±0.03, obtained from an extensive sample of Fe II lines, supports the low value of the iron abundance, in agreement with the meteoritic result
