World energy book: an A--Z, atlas, and statistical source book. [with glossary]

1978
This book is a comprehensive reference guide to energy sources, energy-related terminology and technology, economics, and all the factors related to the search for, extraction of, production, and utilization of the major and alternative sources of energy. The book is divided into three main sections: an A--Z containing some 1500 terms and definitions, an Energy Resources Atlas, and a section of Statistical Data. The text in the A--Z section is presented in the form of alphabetically ordered entries covering all the major energy sources - coal, oil, gas, nuclear energy, hydroelectricity, geothermal energy, and solar energy - as well as numerous alternative sources such as wind, waves, tides, biological waste, ocean thermal gradients, oil shales, tar sands, and the hydrogen economy, and also looks at such concepts as total energy. The Energy Resources Atlas consists of some 35 full-page maps which illustrate the distribution of energy sources and give data on energy production, consumption, and trade.
