My neurofeedback narrative

2020
Abstract A personal story of obtaining experience in neurofeedback is described. The author's scientific journey started at the Institute of experimental medicine of USSR Academy of Medical Sciences in Leningrad in 1970s with recording impulse activity of neurons from the patients' brains to whom intracortical and depth electrodes were implanted for diagnosis and therapy. The journey is continuing at the N.P. Bechtereva Institute of the Human Brain of Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg in collaboration with scientists from Norway, Switzerland, Australia, among others. A new methodology has been developed. The methodology includes (1) recording event-related potentials in healthy subjects and in psychiatric/neurological patients during different neuromodulation techniques including neurofeedback and (2) extracting latent components as neuromarkers of information processing.
