Comparative Histomorphological Study of Oviduct (Infundibulum) in Kadaknath and White Leghorn Breeds of Fowl

2018
The study was conducted on gross and histomorphology of left oviduct of 72 chicks/growers, 36 each of Kadaknath and White Leghorn breeds. These chicks /growers were divided into six age groups on the basis of age viz. group I (1week) group II (4 weeks), group-III (8 weeks), group-IV (12 weeks) group V (16 weeks) and group VI (20 weeks). The different parts of the oviduct were not well marked up to group II and became demarcated into five parts viz. Infundibulum, magnum, isthmus, shell gland and vagina from group III (08 weeks) onwards in both the breeds. In group I, the left oviduct was present in the form of thin tube. Mean length of the oviduct in Kadaknath was 3.03±0.07 cm in group I, which gradually increased and became 7.28±0.06 cm in group VI. In WLH the length of oviduct was slightly more in first four groups, became 4 times in group V and approximately 5 times in group VI. The mean weight of the oviduct was 0.05±0.01 g and 0.06±0.03 g in group I, which increased to 0.35±0.16 g and 29.12±4.18 g in group VI of Kadaknath and WLH, respectively. The epithelium of the infundibulum was simple cuboidal to low columnar up to group IV in Kadaknath and up to group III in WLH. Thereafter, became pseudostratified comprised of single layer of ciliated columnar epithelial cells with goblet cells.
