Undertakings of the Institute of Geography of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, ICL World Centre of Excellence on landslide risk reduction

The primary aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of scientific collaboration for landslide disaster risk reduction in Mexico. Drawing upon specific undertakings into applied research, this article attempts to outline the emerging role of the ICL World Centre of Excellence (WCoE) based in the Institute of Geography (IGg) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico City. This paper begins by offering a brief introduction of the significance of WCoEs in the international landslide disaster research sphere. In the second section, general information of the institutional framework and the IGg-UNAM WCoE is provided. The third part contextualises the landslide research engagement with reference to the activities carried out under the umbrella of the International Consortium on Landslides (ICL). Overall insights are offered in the final section.
