Preliminary study on interspecific transfer of bush trait through Cucurbita moschata by Cucurbita maxima.

The bush trait in Cucurbita moschata was successfully transferred to C.maxima by a pair of accessions,P1(C.maxima.DUCH)and P2(C.moschata.DUCH),which had the ability to make interspecific cross.The bush trait in C.maxima showed the same morphological characteristics and inheritance as that in C.moschata.DUCH.We also found that the bush gene derived from C.moschata appeared to be completely dominant to the semi-bush gene in C.maxima.These new bush C.maxima accessions may be helpful to solve the problems of early maturity and good quality but lower yield in bush pumpkin if continually improved.
