Responses of 6-YO Child Occupants in Frontal Impacts With and Without Booster Seat

2006
This study aimed to analyze the dynamic responses of child occupants in frontal impacts in terms of head accelerations, thorax accelerations and neck loads. A 6-year old Hybrid-III dummy model was used to simulate the child occupant in three different restraint conditions in frontal impacts. The simulations were implemented by using MADYMO code. The results showed that the head acceleration, HIC, thorax acceleration and neck loads of the dummy model in frontal impacts could be decreased effectively by using the booster seat. It was confirmed that using booster seats properly could minimize the injury risks of head, brain, neck and thorax in frontal impacts.
