A Language for the Definition of Fortran Source to Source Transformations

Based on experiences with imperfect compiler optimization we try to develop a tool which allows to program rules for source to source code transformations. The language provides mechanisms and constructs which facilitate the parsing of codes, the collection of the necessary information, the transformation of the code segments and the definition of the transformed code including all features to get a well defined transformed program. The transformation language can also be used to change source code for other purposes. We describe some features of the language and give some examples.
