Analysis of Motor Vehicle Collision and Effect of More Safety Requirements Using Police Record Information for Iran Roads in Spring Holidays

2014
Roads in Iran are one of the most hazardous in the world, and in this regard, the annual ongoing cost of traffic accidents has impacted the country's economy. The high rate of injuries, fatalities and property damage caused by conflict with the police, search and rescue institutions, hospitals and families affected by the accident is remarkable. The New Year holiday of about 20 days in early spring is an Iranian tradition. It is one of the most crowded times, and the high rate of traffic is considerable. In recent years with increasing road safety, stronger regulations and oversight role of the police, the number of traffic accidents has declined. In this study, the police role in the significant reduction of traffic accidents recorded by the police for the years 2012 and 2013 is investigated. Also, research has shown that greater use of speed cameras, finding black spots, binding rules, heavier fines, and training children as police helpers were effective in reducing the traffic accident rate.
