Detection of Power Quality Disturbances using Wavelet Transform

This paper describes the techniques of discrimination of power quality disturbances based of the energy of the distorted signal. Poor quality of electric power is normally caused by deviation of voltage, current, and frequency. Such as interruption in line, noise, distortion of waves like voltage sag, voltage swell, harmonics. These results in malfunction of equipment and causes failure of device. In this paper the wavelet transform technique is used for extract the energy from distorted signal at different level. The energy are used for discriminate the different types of power quality disturbances. For simulation of power quality problem MATLAB is used and for wavelet transform WAVELET TOOLBOX is used for classification of power quality disturbances.
