Breeding and Utilization of Dwarf Type Japonica CMS Line 5016A with Many Panicles

5016A,developed by the Crop Research and Nuclear Application Institute of Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences,is a new BT-type japonica CMS line derived from crossing Hanfeng A with a medium-maturing late japonica rice line 5016 through successively backcrossing method.It was technically identified in Zhejiang Province in September,2004.It is mainly characterized by dwarf plant(77.5 cm),many panicles(25.5 panicles per plant) and strong combining ability.It has a complete male sterility with 100% of sterile plants and 99.98% of pollen sterility.A high-yielding hybrid Zheyou 9(5016A/Zhehui 9816) has been developed.
