Inthisstudy,thecompacttypesolarthermalandgroundcoupledheatpumphybridsystem forspace heating/coolingandhotwatersupplyhasbeendeveloped.ThishybridsystemwasinstaledinZeroEnergySolar House(ZeSH)inKIERforthedemonstration.Thethermalperformanceandoperationalcharacteristicsofthis hybridsystem wereanalysedespecialy.Theresultsareasfolows. (1)Thishybridsystem wasdesignedinordertoaddresstheexistingdisadvantagesofsolarthermal/ground coupledheatpumpsystem.Forthisdesign,alpartsexceptsolarcolectorandgroundcoupledheatpumpwere integratedintoasingleproductinafactory.Thecompacttypeunitincludestwobuffertanks,anexpansiontank, pumps,valves,acontroler,etc.Thissystem hasanadvantageofeasyinstalationwithsimpleplumbingwork eveninnarrow space.(2)Thethermalcharginganddischargingtimeofthebuffertanksanditscharacteristics bygroundcoupledheatpump,andheatpumpCOPaccordingtogeo-sourcetemperatureandbufferstorage temperaturehavebeenstudied.Thissystemwasfoundtomeetweltotheheatloadwithoutanyotherauxiliary heatingequipment.(3)Theoperatinghoursofthegroundcoupledheatpumpasabackupdeviceofsolarthermal canbereducedsignificantlybyusingsolarheat.Itwasalsofoundthattheminimumheatingwatersupplysetting temperatureandmaximum coolingwatersupplysettingtemperaturemakeaninfluenceontheheatpumpCOP. Thelowerheatingwaterandthehighercoolingwatertemperature,thehigherCOP. Inthisrespect,thehybridsystem’sperformancecanbeimprovedinZeSHthanconventionalhouse.
