Process for High-Speed Zinc Electroplating in Sulfate Bath and Properties of the Coating

2007
Additive SZn-75 was introduced into the sulfate bath for high-speed zinc electroplating of the wires made of high carbon steel, aiming at increasing the current density and current efficiency and improving the quality of the coating as well. The microstructure and crystal features of the electroplated zinc coating on the steel wires were analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. It was found that the resulting electroplated zinc coating was composed of fine crystals with preferential orientation and had good ductility and toughness. The application of the zinc coating in the drawing production of the coated steel wires showed that it was feasible to reduce the loss of zinc and mold and the production cost, while increasing the quality of the drawn steel wires.
