The Enhanced TF40B Engine: A Modular Upgrade

1996
The AlliedSignal TF40B engine is used on the U.S. Navy’s Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) for main propulsion. The U.S. Navy is currently supporting the development of an Enhanced version of the TF40B engine which will increase airflow by 17%. There will be a 20% power increase to 5000 SHP and a 7% improvement of specific fuel consumption. The design stresses a kit concept which allows existing TF40B engines to be upgraded to the enhanced configuration and utilizes most of the existing hardware. The overall size and mounting configuration of the engine will not change. The Enhanced TF40B engine will provide capability for growth in many LCAC applications.Copyright © 1996 by ASME
