Reset PID control with an application to ball-beam systems

2013
Reset control is a kind of hybrid control scheme. It resets part of the controller state according to certain law in order to overcome inherit limitation of linear feedback control design and improve system performance. In this paper, we first review some basic concepts and methods of reset control, then propose a kind of ahead reset PID control which not only remains the benefits of integral control and also reduce the overshoot caused by integration. This method is applied to a class of ball-beam systems. Simulation results show that the proposed ahead reset PTD design leads to better transient performance.
